Today, it is my absolute pleasure to introduce a guest post by the lovely Nicole Homes (aka @whopickthisbook).
Camp NaNoWriMo + WordsOnThePageAThon: A Match Made in Heaven
Hello, fellow authors. It’s that time of year again.
And is there a more perfect time to have a WordsOnThePageAThon than during Camp NaNoWriMo? I think not!
Now, some of you may be asking, “What is Camp NaNoWriMo? What is Wordsonthepageathon?”
Well, let me tell you.
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. As an author, you can create a profile and word goal for the month, typically around 50,000, and you spend that month doing nothing but writing to reach your goal and finish your novel.
Now,WordsOnThePageAThon is a 24-hour-write-a-thon where you spend as much of the 24-hour period doing as much writing as you can. Getting those words on the page. (see what she did there? *winky face*)
You see why they both go hand in hand? Each one is designed to help authors finish their work. They were practically made for each other.
I ship it.
Last NaNoWriMo, Angela @writerahart, hosted a WordsOnThePageAThon, which I participated in. I believe it was a factor in helping me reach my goal of 50,000 words and actually finish my novel. And not just in the month-long time frame, either. I finished my novel in half that time. Week three of NaNoWriMo was just starting and I had already completed my novel.
What kind of sorcery is this?
So, what did I do?
I started another project. I wasn’t so lucky to finish the second one, but I outlined seven chapters and actually wrote three.
What an amazing head start for the next NaNoWriMo and Wordsonthepageathon! Which just so happens to have started on April 1st and the first Wordsonthepageathon I am participating in is April 7th.
Why don’t you join me? Get those words on the page and get those novels finished!
The world needs them.
